“I think, therefore I am.”
But what do our thoughts do for us? What do they do to us? Where do they take us? What do they make us?
Pessimist or optimist. Happy or sad. Bitter or appreciative. And so on, and so on . . . Our thoughts control it all.
Thoughts distract us. Preoccupy us. Take us away from it all. They bring us down to Earth or help us hit rock bottom. Bring us joy or lift our spirits.
A thought. Free flowing. Seemingly uncontrolled. Sometimes unwanted. From out of no where.
A reflection from the past, ‘I wish I could go back and change everything.’
Considering the present, ‘ I hate my job.’ Or ‘I love my life.’
Or an idea for the future, ‘I’d like to win the lottery.’
Each thought we have is accompanied by a feeling. Big or small, there is a reaction. A thought can change a mood, a pattern, a habit, an attitude . . . a life. But certainly, just one thought, and the tone of a minute or a day is altered.
We acknowledge, we consider, we focus, we dwell. And the longer we dwell, for better or worse, the bigger the response. And so I was thinking, are we controlled by our thoughts? The answer is, most definitely, YES. At any time, anywhere . . . unexpectedly . . . our thoughts will affect our emotions, our day and our attitude.
But, just think, our power remains. Whether we dwell on the negative, consider the positive, avoid the unwanted, change the direction, replace it completely or ignore it altogether . . . we still retain the control over each and every thought that we allow.
At any given moment, we can change what we are thinking. We can deliberately turn a positive into a negative. Or more importantly, a negative into a positive. By purposely changing what we are thinking about – everything can change.
Think about what you’ve been thinking about. What are your thoughts doing for you? . . . It gives you something to think about, doesn’t it?
